On April 27th of 2017, a 34-year-old woman was put in handcuffs for driving under the influence after striking and killing an individual in Huntington Beach. The incident happened around 4 a.m., as she struck the 55-year-old male pedestrian. Due to the accident, the entire northbound lanes on Beach Boulevard were closed off, expecting to last the majority of the day. As the investigation continues, officials suspect alcohol to cause of the reckless driving.
Previous to hitting the male, the driver also struck a light pole, an electrical box, and a traffic signal as she approached him walking on the sidewalk. She was traveling on Beach Boulevard northbound when the incident occurred Thursday night. After being rushed to the local UCI Medical Center, the victim was pronounced dead. The 34-year-old driver remained put on the road with officials and was placed under arrest for the suspicion of driving under the influence.
The scene and the full cause of the incident remain under investigation by the Huntington Beach Police and the Los Angeles Police Department. Though driving under the influence seems to be the prominent cause of the accident, officials are working to find any other relevant information about the death and the condition of the driver leading to the crash.
