Two brothers from Palmdale were tragically killed and one man was critically injured in a traffic collision on the San Diego 405 Freeway as a result of a wrong-way driver. The wrong-way driver has been identified by law enforcement officials as Granada Hills resident Rodney D. Wright. According to California Highway Patrol Officer M. Tovsen, the accident occurred at approximately 2:40a.m. Wright was driving southbound on the northbound end of the 405 Freeway at Getty Center Drive in a 2006 Ford F-150 pickup truck when he collided into a 2001 Dodge Caravan.
The driver of the Dodge Caravan was identified as 27-year-old Ainsley Hubbard. He was pronounced dead at the site of the collision. His brother, identified as 31-year-old Aidan Hubbard was quickly transported to UCLA Westwood Hospital but was pronounced dead after sustaining critical injuries in the crash according to Lt. Dave Smith of the coroner’s office. Wright was also transported to UCLA Westwood Hospital and was reportedly listed in critical condition according to a source at the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Upon colliding, the Dodge Caravan has lost control and spiraled into another oncoming car: a 2003 Mercedes Benz driven by 60-year-old Reseda resident Nikolaos Linaritakis. Linartakis also sustained critical injuries from the accident. All northbound lanes at Getty Center Drive of the 405 Freeway were closed while law enforcement officials thoroughly investigated the accident until they were re-opened at 7:50 a.m.
While details of the accident are still emerging, Officer Tovsen resealed a statement saying “Alcohol and/or drugs is suspected to be a factor in this collision.”
It’s a grim reality that intoxicated drivers pose a risk to other safe motorists and passengers on the road each and every day. These types of accidents, though tragic, are certainly not uncommon. No matter how many precautions you take, it may be impossible to avoid severe injury or even death due to the carelessness of others. However, this does not mean that there is no recourse in the matter.
