Two adults were injured in a scary school bus accident on a road in the Harvard Park area of South Los Angeles. Fortunately, no children were injured in the crash.
The bus accident, which involved several vehicles, occurred just after 6:30 a.m. as students were headed to Mark Twain Middle School for the day. A white sedan was traveling along the 1300 block of West 66th Street in LA when the driver approached South Normandie Avenue and came to a stop. The motorist then reportedly attempted to make a left turn onto South Normandie Avenue. At that moment, a 1998 Isuzu SUV traveling in the opposite direction was forced to swerve out of the way to avoid a collision with the sedan. The Isuzu managed to steer clear of the other vehicle, but it crossed over the double-yellow line and could not avoid impact with a school bus that was also on the road.
The Isuzu involved in the accident also struck a couple of parked vehicles, with one of those vehicles being dragged for approximately 50 feet. Meanwhile, the school bus hit another parked car before being forced off the road and onto the sidewalk, where it eventually struck a wood utility pole and came to a stop. Fortunately, no one was inside any of the parked cars.
When California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrived at the scene of the accident, they saw the damaged vehicles and assumed that there would be multiple fatalities.
The entire accident was captured by a surveillance video camera set up on the exterior of a business located near the roadway.
Children Escape Injury In La Bus Accident
At the time of the accident, there were seven children on the bus. Although the bus sustained significant damage in the crash, with multiple windows being shattered, none of the students were seriously injured. One girl on board the school bus said that she was in some pain after hitting her head against a bus window, but the pain quickly subsided.
After the accident, the teenagers were evaluated at the scene and then released into the custody of their parents. There were a couple of adults who suffered serious injuries in the crash. The driver of the school bus, a 51-year-old resident of Los Angeles, was transported to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood CA so that he could receive medical treatment. Additionally, the driver of the Isuzu, a 39-year-old LA man, was transported to California Hospital Medical Center because he sustained minor injuries as a result of the bus accident.
