A car accident in a parking lot located in the Sylmar neighborhood of Los Angeles, California resulted in five people sustaining physical injuries.
Sylmar is in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, with the motor vehicle accident occurring on the 1300 block of Glenoaks Boulevard.
The accident is said to have involved an SUV and a minivan. The minivan was reportedly driven by a 19-year-old woman. The woman was in the process of pulling out of a parking lot that connects Lakeview Charter High and Triumph Charter Academy when an SUV crashed into the woman’s minivan. According to authorities, the driver of the SUV got her foot stuck on the gas pedal and momentarily lost control of the vehicle. This resulted in the SUV colliding with the minivan and subsequently “brushing” up against several people who were standing in the parking lot.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and other emergency medical responders rushed to the scene of the accident and checked on the injured parties.
Five pedestrians, all of whom are believed to be high school students, were near the site of the SUV-minivan collision. They sustained injuries when they were struck by the SUV. They required medical treatment and were later taken to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, none of the bus accident victims suffered life-threatening injuries; after being treated by physicians at the hospital, they were released. Additionally, the 19-year-old driver of the minivan reportedly suffered minor physical injuries as well.
Local law enforcement officers investigated the incident and determined that the car accident was likely just that: an accident. Although this means that the driver who allegedly caused the car crash probably won’t face criminal charges or be cited for a traffic violation, she could still be subject to multiple personal injury lawsuits filed by the injured pedestrians. That’s because California law allows an injured person to seek damages when a motorist acts negligently and causes a car accident.
